Malaysia: Canadian Independent Investigation Report Catches Attention of Law Professionals and NGOs (Photos)

Mr. David Matas, a renowned human rights attorney and a member of the Canadian independent investigation team that produced a report on the CCP's organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners, was invited to introduce the report in an open forum hosted by the Malaysia Bar Council. The report caught the attention of law professionals and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

After listening to Mr. Matas' presentation, Malaysian human rights attorney Edmund Bon agreed to join the Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (CIPFG), to collect more evidence of the persecution and the organ harvesting. He said, "As an attorney, I should do this."

On October 10, 2006, Mr. Matas held a press conference and a forum in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He held the press conference in the morning and attended a forum in the afternoon. The title of the forum was, "A New Form of Evil: The CCP's Organ Harvesting." In the evening, Mr. Matas was invited to give a talk about his report in the auditorium of the Malaysia Bar Council.

Mr. Yap Swee Seng, Executive Director of the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUARAM) said after the press conference that they knew of the allegations of the CCP organ harvesting, but had not read the related independent investigation report. He came especially to listen to Mr. Matas. "We will read the report and the investigation results. Then we will discuss what we can do."

Ms. Jaspal Kaur, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Law, HELP University College, brought her students to attend the open forum in the evening. She said that she had never heard of organ removal from living people. Such an atrocity, occurring in modern society, is horrible. "The purpose of the forum is to monitor crimes. As a teacher, I think I should let my students to know the issue."

Some attendees asked questions about how to help. "I think we must call on the Malaysian government and the CCP regime, to let them know that we are paying attention to the issue. We should tell our elected officials to pass a resolution to help stop the atrocities. We are human beings and must have basic humanity and conscience."

Sri Surya Kant Jothee, Research Analyst, Centre for Policy Sciences, said in an interview, "This is a serious allegation. I will learn more about the allegation of live organ harvesting. If it is true, I will condemn the crime."

Many people from the public came to the forum and learned of the atrocity. Mr. Lin of a media department said that the forum provided him with lots of information. He said, "I hope that we do not just listen and observe, but participate to help stop the organ harvesting."

Another student from the law department asked Mr. Matas that what she could do in Malaysia to help stop such crimes.

Malaysian human rights attorney Edmund Bon agreed to join the Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong. He said that many attendees asked questions, which showed people's attention to the CCP atrocity of live organ harvesting. He believes that Malaysia should join the CIPFG.
